Barbados – Gays, Lesbians and All-Sexuals against Discrimination (B-GLAD) was founded in 2012 with the recognition of a necessity and absence of a comprehensive organisational voice in Barbados to speak out and advocate on behalf of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) citizens and gender and sexual minorities who face discrimination on legislative, institutional, economic, social and domestic levels because of their sexual orientation, gender identity and/or gender expression.
B-GLAD has been operating as a Community Based organisation since May of 2012; which first began as a digital forum and safe space for members of the LGBTI population in Barbados. B-GLAD’s activity and reach soon evolved to community engagement, community organising, public advocacy and public outreach.
The organisation was registered as Barbados’s legally recognised Charity #1043 on October 14th, 2013.
B-G.L.A.D.’s vision for Barbados is one where all citizens are viewed as equal by the state, regardless of their belonging to the gender and sexual minority population.
B-G.L.A.D. envisions a Barbados where all non-heteronormative citizens can feel free to express their gender identity and/or sexual orientation without fear of persecution; institutionally, economically, socially or domestically; a society where every citizen can be fully accepted, integrated and celebrated because of their diversity.
